Launching PORTAL

PORTAL can be used as a stand-alone solution by a single user or by multiple users across a network. In either case, your login determines your level of access to the solution. You will want to contact your solution administrator to determine how to access PORTAL and to ask about your password.

In most cases, PORTAL will be served from FileMaker Server located somewhere on your network. Multiple users will be accessing PORTAL.

Launching PORTAL as a Networked Solution

    1. Launch FileMaker Pro on your desktop computer.
  1. From the File menu choose Open Remote.
  2. You will see the address or name of your FileMaker Server on the left under the Hosts window. Select it by clicking on it. A list of available files will appear on the left. If not, contact your database administrator for assistance.
  3. Select the PORTAL file and click OK.
  4. Enter your account information and click OK.
  5. PORTAL will open on your desktop.

It is important to remember to move your cursor out of any field that it might be resting in when you take a break. If you do not do this, and others are trying to modify that particular record, they will get a message that another user is currently doing so and they will not be able to edit the record.
