FAM2 Overwrite a Field with Empty Values

When a parent “blanks out” a field in their household form—for example, if a parent deletes an emergency contact in FAM and leaves the field blank (the parent does not enter a new contact)—the new blank field may not copy over into your solution. That is, the data that you have in your Family file will remain and will return into the FAM display when you process the form. This is because the default setting for the field is that field contents in the solution are not overwritten by “no data.”

To change the default settings for a field in FAM to allow data to be overwritten with nothing (in this example, within the Emergency Contact form):

  1. Select FORMS from the More menu.

  1. In Family Form Setup, navigate to the Emergency tab.
  2. Click the green arrow next to the desired field to EDIT FORM ELEMENT.

  1. In the Attributes area, check the box Overwrite with empty values.
  2. Click Done.

The field in your solution will now be overwritten with “no data” when you process a form in which this field has been blanked out by the parent.
