Server Configuration for BC3

Server-level Access Required

In order to configure the FileMaker Server and implement BROADCASTER 3 in your core solutions, changes must be made at the administrator level on the FileMaker Server. A user must be able to perform all of the following tasks in order to complete this procedure successfully.

Upload Databases

During this procedure we will upload the three new BROADCASTER files via the FileMaker Server Admin Console using the Upload Database Assistant.

Plugin Installation Permissions

BROADCASTER 3 uses the MailIt plug-in, which is provided and licensed by inRESONANCE, to send mail via your FileMaker server. This requires that the correct plugin be placed into the FileMaker Server > Database Server > Extension folder on the machine hosting the FileMaker Server.

  1. Stop/Restart Database ServerIn order to initialize the MailIt plugin, it is required that that database server be stopped and restarted. This typically can be completed in under ten minutes, but can vary depending on the size and number of your FileMaker databases. All users must be disconnected from FileMaker in order to perform this step.
  2. Create FileMaker Server Script ScheduleBROADCASTER 3 requires that a BROADCASTER Master Server-side script be scheduled to run every minute to check the queue and send any pending messages.

Server-side Procedure

This procedure can be completed in advance by your IT staff, or can be completed by an inRESONANCE support technician via screen share. If you would like to schedule a screen share to complete this procedure, please email [email protected].

  1. Download the new BROADCASTER packageYou should have received an email from [email protected] with the instructions for downloading your BROADCASTER files. If you have not received that email, please contact [email protected].
  2. Install and Enable the Mailit plugin on the FileMaker ServerIn the BROADCASTER package are two additional plugin files. One is for the Mac platform and the other is for Windows. You will need to install the appropriate one for the platform on which your FileMaker Server runs. If you are unfamiliar with server plugins, you may want to watch the how-to video linked below:

  • Upload the new files & schedule the server-side scriptBelow is a link to a screencast that demonstrates both uploading the new BROADCASTER files to your FileMaker Server and scheduling the BROADCASTER Master Server-Side Script. This screencast applies to FileMaker 11 only.
